  1. This is fantastic. I like the App idea. Willing to invest. Given the current shortage of garbage dumping space (Mandur-full, Anekal-full), this will be a boon to municipalities and individual households.

Also a great case scenario for use of CMMI-SVC for design, delivery and disposal.

If applying ISO, the Management Representative is bound to raise a “stink”.

Like car pooling, innovative ideas like pooling of similar looking-smelling – aged garbage might crop up. Only problem of course is where to dump after you have exhausted your neighbours’ empty spaces and irritation levels.

I believe we have vast underground bunkers for storing records today; underground water proof bunkers (private or public) could emerge for garbage dumping; provide future generations with opportunities to discover the rotten things their forefathers did during archaeological discoveries.

I guess potential is enormous. Your cartoon triggers so many thoughts.

BBMP could use this for its public campaigns.

    1. Bangalore is planning to make it mandatory for everyone leaving the city (by any means – bus, air, train, car) to carry 2 kgs of (‘certified’) garbage out of the city. This amount cannot be counted in the weight limit by the airlines.

  2. The only worry is if the municipal counterparts in other cities adopt the same policy for their denizens with a super lifetime unlimited takeaway offer. Other super offers may include “for every 5 kg of garbage ousted to a different city”, you get discount on highway toll charges, city loyalty bonus, coupons redeemable towards items that generate more local garbage and so on creating a vicious self fulfilling and competitive cycle of what you do unto others, others will do unto you.

We may then have to agitate (and show our “intolerance”) over whose garbage is more “garbagiesh”. Resulting in the introduction of a metaphor around “quality” of garbage, to make relative distinctions.

    1. The fights for / against garbage may make other fights (for water, electricity, projects) seem insignificant in the future.

      Or so I think.

  3. Interestingly, I recollect reading somewhere that an European politician while evaluating ways to produce clean energy was complaining about lower quantity of waste produced in his country. Our desi bureaucrat played angel and ensured him to send millions of tons of waste every year from our country if the producing country agreed to absorb the costs associated with the transportation. Our waste may be worth $$$$ 🙂

Also, the hypothetical App would definitely ensure that the Real estate investors know “Where not to invest”. Our current political set up may not encourage transparency with regards to info on garbage dumping though this sounds like a good script for Ram Gopal Verma for one of his many mysterious and baffling movies 🙂

    1. Thanks, Shyamal.

I stopped seeing RGV movies long ago, so I am not tuned to his current version of “mysterious and baffling” movies.

So, maybe something to do with gangsters fighting in / for garbage?
Or ghosts in the garbage surfacing for redemption?
Or dead bodies in the garbage?

      Do enlighten us 🙂

      Cheers

  4. Hahahahaha. Nice bunch of ideas.

I stopped seeing RGV movies as well though have read fun articles on his film making. The man is now making a Kannada movie. Not sure if he is smelling the stink too 🙂

Some of the plots that I think may suit his style could be :
    1) “Kachrewaala Kaatil”- A sequential dumping of dead bodies in garbage dumps. Police force manning all the dumps yet clueless about the next dumping.
    2) “Ye mera Kachara Hai “- Gangsters fighting over the “turf” rights.
    3) “Kar lo swach Bharat – Zindagi milegi na dobara” – Classical style of making movies with a moral message in the end.
    4) “Gar(den) to Gar(bage) city – Aankhon dekhi” – A transformational tale
    5) “Kachre ki Raajneeti” – Various sub plots a) Politicians fighting over relocating dumping yards b) nexus of politicians and Real estate biggies to artificially inflate/deflate RE prices using Garbage as the variable
    …………….

    Cheers!
